SU HISTORIA Jorge Juan Augusto Contreras nació el 27 de abril de 1925. Su padre era maestro y su madre ama de casa. Estudió en la Escuela Normal de Mendoza. Se recibió de profesor de Historia y Geografía en la UNCuyo. A los 25 años decidió ingresar al Seminario y se ordenó como sacerdote en 1962. Trabajó por los más desprotegidos en el barrio San Martín, en el desierto de Lavalle y en el penal de la calle Boulogne Sur Mer. En 2003, el Senado de la Nación lo distinguió como uno de los “Mayores notables de la Argentina” Recibió el título Honoris Causa por su “compromiso con los desposeídos y su pensamiento plural y emancipador”. Falleció a los 83 años, el 24 de agosto de 2008.	“Poder hacer algo por los demás es, sin dudas, el sentido de la vida”. His mothes father was a school teacher and his mother a housewife. He studied in Escuela Normal de Mendoza. He graduated as a History an Geography teacher in UNCuyo. When he was 25, he decided to join the Seminar and he was ordained priest in 1962. He worked for the poor and unprotected in barrio San Martín, the deserto of Lavalle and in the prision on Boulogne Sur Mer St. In 2003 the Senate of the Nation proclaimed him “one of the most outstanding man in Argentina” He was awarded the title Honoris Causa for his commitment to the helpless and his plural and liberating thoughts. He died at the age of 83, the 24th of August in 2008.
